This year's theme of the Third annual national conference of the canadian association of perinatal and Women’s health nurses will be "Evolving Through the Mist of Change." For the occasion, nurses from all across Canada will meet in Niagara Falls, Ontario. Francine de Montigny, Director of the Fathers Friendly Initiative within the Families will once again be participating in this nation-wide meeting. She will be holding a three-hour FFIF workshop with her colleague, Christine Gervais. The theme of paternity will also be central in four other conferences and posters under Dr. de Montigny's direction. The factors contributing to men's decisions to conceive a child, their mental health in the postnatal period, services for vulnerable fathers, and the way public policy takes fathers into account will each be discussed.

Purpose: To identify the psychosocial factors associated with paternal postnatal depression in a context where children had been breastfed for a minimum of six months.

INITIATIVE AMIS DES PÈRES
Transformer nos pratiques à l’égard des pères : L’Initiative Amis des Pères (IAP) au sein des familles (SS-7)
Les bénéfices de l’engagement des pères pour le bien-être des familles sont largement documentés. Or, certains pères rapportent souvent vivre de l’impuissance et de l’anxiété en période périnatale. Ils se sentent exclus des services et des soins des professionnels et reçoivent peu de soutien de ceux-ci. L’IAP a pour mission de promouvoir l’engagement des pères auprès des enfants, au sein des familles et des communautés, notamment en développant et en intégrant des pratiques professionnelles inclusives des pères. L’IAP phase 2 est implantée dans cinq régions du Québec jusqu’en 2017.
Objectifs d’apprentissage : Présenter l’Initiative Amis des pères au sein des familles. Réfléchir à nos croyances personnelles sur la paternité. Explorer pourquoi et comment mettre en place des pratiques réellement inclusives des pères.
